L’OCCITANE Group marks one year as a B Corp™: A milestone in sustainability, empowerment, and global impact

Today we’re celebrating one whole year since L’OCCITANE Group became B Corp™ certified – a remarkable achievement made possible thanks to all of your hard work. What an amazing team!

This milestone was built on our strong track record of empowering the communities we’re invested in, preserving biodiversity, reducing waste, and mitigating climate change.

If you’ve ever wondered what qualified L’OCCITANE Group for B Corp status, then please read on to learn more about some of our key global and local initiatives...

When it comes to governance, how do we make sure our company considers all stakeholders?

Social and environmental sustainability objectives have been integrated into staff bonus schemes worldwide, to ensure sustainability is part of decision-making on a daily basis – and to ensure continuous progress in all business units.

Locally, in the Asia–Pacific region, sustainability objectives and incentives have been integrated into all staff performance objectives.

How well are we taking care of our employees?

Since 2012, the Group has taken part in the Great Place to Work (GPTW) barometer, which identifies a company’s strengths in terms of well-being in the workplace, while highlighting areas for improvement. In 2022, the campaign was expanded to 26 countries, and the Group achieved an overall Trust Index score of 68%. We’re now committed to reaching a score of 70%.

More locally, an employee support hotline has been set up across Japan, Europe, and the Asia–Pacific regions to support employee well-being and support mental health.

And initiatives have been put in place in the UK to empower women and families, such as menopause support, including referrals to occupational health for expert advice, and paid time off for employees undergoing fertility treatment and in case of pregnancy loss, including resources for concerned line managers.

How is our company prioritising and taking care of the planet?

Our Group climate strategy is aligned with the Net-Zero Standard and has validated science-based targets (Science Based Targets initiative) with the ambition of limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

On a local level, our factories in France are reducing waste, reducing water and energy consumption with a long-standing environmental management system (EMS). Our factory and warehouse in Brazil also uses solar panels and electric truck deliveries.

How do L’OCCITANE Group give back and contribute to the community?

In 2019, L’OCCITANE Group implemented a global sustainable procurement programme named #NotJustSuppliers. It aims to manage CSR risks within its supply chain and its suppliers’ sustainability performance at scale.

Locally, and aligned with the Group’s priorities, heritage, core values and communities, each brand has built its own philanthropic commitments. Our brands’ philanthropic actions can be based on financial support, in-kind donations, volunteering, or a combination of all three.

And how is our company having a positive impact on our customers’ lives?

For all our customers on both a global and local scale, our factories in France ensure quality process and certifications, compliance with international standards and industry bodies, alongside a centralised complaint resolution service and external audits certified by the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) – ensuring rigorous quality and safety controls for all of our products
