The important role of self-care in modern life
Today is International Self-Care Day – an initiative that began in 2011 to recognise the benefits of self-care in our everyday lives.
Self-care is a vital practice and an essential part of managing modern life, helping us to improve our mood, increase our confidence, and maintain a positive outlook.
The definition of self-care is to look after your own physical, nutritional, and emotional needs – whether that’s making sure you get a good night’s sleep, by eating delicious, healthy meals, or by making time for rest and relaxation.
It’s also now widely acknowledged that by taking care of ourselves, we’re often in a far stronger position to be able to take care of others too.
Global efforts to promote self-care have focused on important areas of support, such as our younger generations, the elderly, and research programmes to gain a better understanding of the wide-reaching benefits for both individuals and healthcare systems.
Self-care can sometimes be a serious subject, with its focus on maintaining health, preventing disease, and managing illness and disability – but there’s also room for rest, relaxation, and time for yourself.
Which is, of course, where L’OCCITANE Group and our body-loving, yet luxurious, brands happily fit into the equation!
